Elvet Recruitment is delighted to be working in partnership with a well-established, family-owned construction and engineering business to recruit an HR Manager to join their established team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced HR professional to take ownership of a varied HR function within a well-established and diverse business. The role will be hands-on, working closely with employees and managers across the organisation and providing practical HR advice and support across the full employee lifecycle.

The successful candidate will be confident dealing with a broad range of HR matters, highly organised, commercially aware and comfortable working independently in a busy environment.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Managing the day-to-day HR function across the business
  • Providing professional and practical HR advice and guidance to managers and employees
  • Supporting managers with employee relations matters, including disciplinary, grievance, performance and capability processes
  • Managing absence, sickness and return-to-work processes
  • Supporting the full recruitment and selection process, from identifying vacancies through to onboarding new employees
  • Coordinating new starter processes, inductions and relevant employment documentation
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date employee records and HR systems
  • Ensuring HR policies, procedures and documentation are maintained, reviewed and communicated effectively
  • Supporting the implementation and ongoing review of HR policies and procedures
  • Advising managers on employment legislation, company policies and best practice
  • Supporting performance management and employee development initiatives
  • Coordinating training and development requirements across the business
  • Monitoring probationary periods, appraisals and other employee lifecycle processes
  • Working closely with payroll to ensure accurate and timely processing of employee changes
  • Supporting the management of holidays, family leave, sickness and other employee-related processes
  • Maintaining confidentiality and ensuring sensitive employee information is handled appropriately
  • Supporting HR compliance, audits and reporting requirements
  • Assisting with employee engagement and wellbeing initiatives
  • Providing HR support across multiple areas of the business and working closely with senior management
  • Identifying opportunities to improve HR processes, systems and ways of working

What We're Looking For:

  • Previous experience working within an HR Manager, HR Advisor, HR Business Partner or similar HR position
  • Strong knowledge of generalist HR practices and the full employee lifecycle
  • Experience managing employee relations matters, including disciplinary, grievance, absence and performance processes
  • Good understanding of UK employment legislation and HR best practice
  • Experience supporting recruitment, onboarding, performance management and employee development
  • Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail
  • Confident providing HR advice and guidance to managers and employees at all levels
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with professionalism and discretion
  • Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office and HR systems
  • Ability to work independently, prioritise workloads and manage multiple HR matters simultaneously
  • A practical, hands-on and approachable approach to HR
  • Previous experience within construction, engineering, manufacturing, haulage, logistics or another operational environment would be advantageous
  • CIPD qualification or working towards CIPD would be advantageous
