Job Description
Do you have a proven track record in B2B business development or sales within the utilities, power, water, gas or industrial infrastructure sectors?
Are you a commercially driven new business hunter with experience developing relationships with Tier 1 contractors, asset owners and corporate clients, and winning work through complex procurement and tendering processes?
We’re recruiting a Business Development Manager – New Markets to join an established business on a part-time basis, supporting its commercial expansion across the power, water, utilities and industrial building sectors.
This is a genuine new business development role, focused on identifying new markets, generating opportunities from scratch and building relationships with high-value clients. You’ll combine desk-based market research and pipeline development with regional travel to meet potential clients, identify opportunities and secure new business.
Reporting directly to the Company Directors, you’ll have significant visibility and the opportunity to make a direct commercial impact within a growing business.

- Identify infrastructure developments, investment programmes and potential capital expenditure opportunities
- Develop new business opportunities and build a high-quality pipeline from scratch
- Generate outbound leads through telephone, email, professional networks and market research
- Identify and target Tier 1 contractors, asset owners, estate managers and corporate end-users
- Build strong relationships with new and prospective clients through direct engagement and face-to-face meetings
- Identify opportunities to secure positions on framework agreements and preferred supplier lists
- Identify and pursue relevant tenders and formal procurement opportunities
- Navigate complex, multi-stakeholder sales and procurement processes
- Work with technical stakeholders to understand requirements and confidently discuss engineering and infrastructure solutions
- Monitor market activity and identify emerging sectors, projects and commercial opportunities
- Maintain accurate records of leads, opportunities, contacts and pipeline activity
- Provide clear, data-driven weekly pipeline updates directly to the Company Directors
- Manage your time effectively to maximise activity and results within a part-time working week
- Support the wider commercial strategy and identify opportunities for continued market expansion
What We’re Looking For
- Proven experience in B2B sales, business development or commercial growth
- Strong track record of winning new business, rather than solely managing existing accounts
- Previous experience within power, water, gas, utilities, industrial or commercial building infrastructure
- Experience engaging with Tier 1 contractors and/or corporate asset owners
- Strong understanding of complex sales processes, procurement routes and formal tendering
- Experience securing work through frameworks, PSLs and/or competitive tenders
- Confident commercial approach with a genuine “hunter” mentality
- Ability to communicate confidently with commercial and technical stakeholders
- Good understanding of engineering, infrastructure or technical project environments
- Excellent organisation and time management skills
- Ability to work independently and deliver measurable results within a part-time working pattern
- Full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle – essential
