Job Description

Are you an experienced Multi-Trade Operative with a strong background in residential property maintenance and a passion for delivering excellent customer service?

Elvet Recruitment is recruiting for a Customer Service Technician to join a leading national housebuilder within its North East division, reporting to the Newcastle office and covering residential developments across the region.

This is an excellent opportunity to join an established housebuilding business, supporting its customer care function by carrying out remedial works, resolving property defects and ensuring customers receive a high standard of service following completion of their new home.

The successful candidate will be an experienced multi-trade operative, confident carrying out a range of repairs within residential properties. You'll have a keen eye for detail, take pride in the quality of your workmanship and be comfortable working directly with homeowners to resolve issues efficiently, ideally completing works to a high standard on the first visit.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Carrying out remedial and maintenance works within occupied and unoccupied residential properties.
  • Completing repairs and resolving defects reported through the customer service team.
  • Undertaking general carpentry, including changing kitchen doors, cabinets and base units, and adjusting door alignment.
  • Carrying out making good, painting, decorating, dry lining, tiling and grouting.
  • Completing basic plumbing repairs and diagnosing common plumbing issues.
  • Undertaking mastic and sealant works to achieve a consistent, high-quality finish.
  • Reviewing defect lists and prioritising workloads to ensure repairs are completed within agreed timescales.
  • Identifying and collecting the necessary materials ahead of customer appointments.
  • Ensuring works are completed to NHBC, LABC and Premier standards, with a focus on quality and first-time completion.
  • Liaising directly with homeowners and customers, providing a professional and helpful service throughout the repair process.
  • Supporting Area Managers and Partners with inspections and resolving defects reported during the End of Defect Period.
  • Providing feedback on subcontractor workmanship and identifying recurring quality issues.
  • Assisting with customer-ready inspections and ad hoc works on completed developments.
  • Working closely with the Customer Service Manager and Coordinators to ensure an effective customer care service.
  • Completing all work safely and cost-effectively, identifying opportunities to improve standards and reduce costs.

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven experience working in a multi-trade role within residential properties.
  • Strong practical skills across general carpentry, making good, painting and decorating, dry lining, tiling and grouting – essential.
  • Experience fitting or adjusting kitchen doors, cabinets and base units.
  • Knowledge of basic plumbing and the ability to diagnose and resolve straightforward plumbing issues.
  • Good mastic and sealant application skills, with an understanding of quality finishes.
  • A keen eye for detail and pride in delivering high-quality workmanship.
  • Excellent customer service skills and the ability to build positive relationships with homeowners and stakeholders.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to remain calm and professional when dealing with customer concerns.
  • Good organisational and time management skills, with the ability to plan and prioritise workloads effectively.
  • A proactive and solutions-focused approach, with the ability to work independently and as part of a wider team.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel between sites across the North East – essential.
  • A commitment to working in line with company values of integrity, caring and quality.

Desirable:

  • A formal carpentry qualification.
  • Practical knowledge of NHBC Standards.
  • Familiarity with NHBC's A Consistent Approach to Finishes, particularly Chapter 9.
  • Previous experience within housebuilding, new-build housing or a residential customer care department.
